7) More on the triptych: “Jonathan in the Roman villa”

Jonathan, © Eric Itschert

Dimensions. 100 x 80 cm

Series: imaginary museums

The artist painted Jonathan imaging him in a newly discovered ancient Roman villa. The very first time he showed this painting, Eric added the following words: “The place of the Roman villa, which is well preserved compared to what has been found until now, has been kept secret by the discoverers. They decided in this way in order to prevent any interventions by pedanticany  historians of art and invasions of a multitude of chartered tourists. They wanted to preserve the beauty of this initiatory place even illegally (not declaration of an archeological discovery)… Actually some of the rooms were used to celebrate Dionysian Mysteries that were prohibited later on by the Romans and by the Christians”
